Traveling (part 11)

This post is going to be an update of yesterday and today! Yesterday we took a small road trip and drove across the famous Mackinaw Bridge. The view was awesome! The Mackinaw Bridge is one of the longest bridges – but when you drive across it, it sure doesn’t seem like it!

After driving over the bridge, we stopped by a beautiful sandy beach. I wish I could’ve stayed there longer!

Today was very, very hot (so was yesterday, and the day before!) and it still is even though it is late at night. It was at least 95 degrees today. There is extreme heat warnings all over the mid west and you can’t go outside without sweating (EW!) or putting on tons of sunscreen. We went to Deer Lake to cool down for most of the day. My mom and I went stand up paddling! It was tiring but fun (and of course she was about a hundred times better than me). I almost fell in a couple of times and in the extreme heat I got tired quickly. After we finished, I immediately went swimming in the lake because I was so hot! It was very refreshing even though the lake was warm. I swam farther out almost into the boating areas because the water slowly gets colder the farther you are from the lake. That was all we did today because you can’t really do anything else in this heat.

Traveling (part 10)

What better way to beat the heat than go to a water park! Hey guys! Today was a very hot day. We first spent an hour or two at the pool, but then decided to check out the indoor water park connected to the resort. Apparently, Avalanche Bay is one of the best indoor water parks! And after hours of fun, I definitely agree! There is a lazy river, tons of water slides, a mat slide, and more! Check out the photos below!:)

Here is a photo of my brother and I under the big bucket that spills out tons of water every ten minutes. I think Soak City has tons of these. The water is warm, not freezing cold, unlike other water parks I’ve been to.

20130714-213152.jpg
Here is a photo of the play area of the park. Uh play area? I have no idea what to call this. It has stairs and dripping water everywhere. It also leads to two water slides that are for smaller kids. I went on them anyway – I mean, what the heck? I’m probably never going to come here again.

Another picture of the water park so you get a good idea of how it looks!:)

This is the only thing I didn’t go on. You jump on it with a boogie board, and then you try and stay on without falling. It’s harder than it looks! Apparently you get sprayed a lot in your eyes and I didn’t want to risk a whole gallon of water going up my nose.

Coming down one of the water slides. This was the first one I went on! By the way, it was the little kid one lol. Still fun. I love the long ones that are all dark and you can’t see anything!! Once I had a dream that I got stuck in one. Huh.

Tumblr girl! Not.

Of course, I went on these floating fake ice-berg things.

20130714-214150.jpg
Alright. This is the “mat slide” I was talking about. What else would you call it? I don’t think it has a specific name. This was super fun even though you had to walk three long flights of stairs to get up. I probably walked over two hundred flights of stairs total today. Wow, what a work out! I’m really tired.

After the water park, we went to a restaurant and ate some dinner. I got a nice plate of spaghetti and it was delicious!

Traveling (part 9)

Today we drove to Boyne! It was a short car ride, only about an hour, and we arrived at this awesome ski-resort. Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we decided to drive down and check out the lake which was also part of the resort. It was great! They had complimentary kayaks, tubes, and the water was super warm! Tomorrow we are hopefully going to reserve a spot to go stand-up paddling. Once again, I tried out their kayaks and kayaked around the lake. We ate dinner at their restaurant (right on the lake too!) and the food was superb. They had the best fries!;)
Once we checked in, we discovered that they had an outdoor AND indoor pool – connected! Let me try and explain (it’s a bit confusing.) Basically, there is an indoor pool and that pool also has a clear curtain-type thing that you can swim under to be in the same pool but outside. Did that make sense? I know a picture would help, but there’s always sooo many people and that’s super awkward. After we dried off, we went to toast some marshmallows and s’mores. There’s so much to do! Zip lining, fitness room, seg-ways, fishing, tubing, etc.! After our treat, we decided to go on the ski lift! We got our tickets and climbed on. The view was amazing! I was a bit nervous though – it was the first time I had ever been on a ski lift! P.S. I’ve never been in the snow either! I guess that’s what I get for being a California-girl!;)
Here is a few photos of the ski lift below 🙂

Traveling (part 8)

Hey guys! This is going to be a mixed update of yesterday and today.
Yesterday I visited the Sleeping Bear Dunes! This is a popular tourist attraction that has been mentioned by Good Morning America, Sunset Magazine, and more! It was a long, hot hike up the dunes but it was worth it in the end. It has quite the amazing view too! After coming back down, we took a scenic drive and found a picnic table to eat lunch. We continued our drive, stopping at outlooks and admiring the green trees.

Today I had a very active and fun day! Right after breakfast, we drove down to River Side Canoe Trips to go kayaking! It was so beautiful. The ride was about two hours and boy – it was a work out! The lake was beautiful and it was super fun. We might do another kayaking trip when we travel to Boyne tomorrow! There was also a huge snapper turtle that was harassing some of the tubers! After arriving at the end of the lake, we ate lunch at a park to satisfy our stomachs. We drove home and then I decided to take a swim in the hotel pool. I decided to check out Grand Traverse Bay which is right next to our hotel and the water was super warm! I’ve never seen anything like it! It was shallow and warm and so much fun.
I definitely would want to kayak again very soon! Here are some photos below!

Traveling (part 7)

Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t update yesterday – I was really tired and I forgot 😦 . This will be a quick update of yesterday with some photos and then I will upload an update of today later tonight.
We visited the city yesterday and looked around at the boutiques and shops. I found this dessert store that sold tons of fudge and had the best-looking treats I had ever seen! After walking around a bit, we decided to check out the Lego museum because my little brother was very bored. The museum also had some information and artifacts about trains, cherries, and Indians which was interesting. The Lego part of the museum was cool! They had many different buildings made out of Legos – Statue of Liberty, White House, Mackinaw Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. It was very impressive!
After, we went back to the hotel and chilled for a bit then took a car ride to see Traverse City. While driving back, we decided to stop by a dock and look at Torch Lake.
Later in the evening, there was a BEAUTIFUL sunset! The sun was pink and literally a fireball and it was incredible.
Today we are visiting the dunes and doing more fun stuff, so stay tuned!
Here are some photos below!

Traveling (part 6)

Today I left my uncle’s house and drove up to Traverse City. The drive was about six or seven hours – very long and boring! The weather was nuts. One minute it was clear skies and the next was pouring rain! Oh Michigan. The rain was super loud and so bad that we could barely see the road in front of us! We stopped at Subway for lunch in a small, cute town and then continued driving. Our hotel was not what I was expecting! I am very impressed. It has cookies and juice in the lobby (always a plus), an indoor pool with jacuzzi, and… A hot tub in our hotel room! OMG! This is definitely a first. I can’t wait to try it and I still can’t believe it. Our room has a beautiful view of Lake Michigan too! You can also rent jet-skies on the lake. I hope I get a chance to try that. I’m here for four days, who knows what might happen?!

Traveling (part 5)

Wow! Today was a long, fun day. We decided to drive when we found out that the train ride was early and had very many confusing stops. Our trip took off at ten in the morning with nice sunny weather. After about a half an hour, it started to sprinkle…then POUR. It was raining cats and dogs! I could barely see the cars in front of me. Once we drove across the bridge and parked in the parking garage, it was still raining. We ran across the street as fast as we could under a roof. We planned where we were going to eat lunch – a famous deep-dish pizza place! We finally made it and ordered our food. 40 minutes later… Our cheesy deep dish pizza finally arrived! It was the best pizza I had ever eaten. It was so cheesy and yummy beyond belief. Once we were finished, it had stopped rainy and it was beginning to clear up. We started to walk on the Magnificent Mile and shopped on Michigan Avenue. We stopped at a Starbucks to get a few refreshments and I tried another drink from the secret menu! This time I tried the Turtle frap, a chocolate delicious drink. When we were finished, we stopped by a few more stores such as Forever 21, H&M, Hollister, Victoria’s Secret, etc. Our last stop was Sephora, and surprisingly I didn’t find anything there! I love their little travel sized product bins placed where you check out, but it was really overpriced. I could’ve sworn that I saw the same thing at Ulta for a much lower price! I was disappointed in that – I prefer Ulta because they carry high end and drugstore products. Chicago was full of skyscrapers! It was really fun and I enjoyed it! I’ll post a separate Chicago OOTD up soon. Here are some pictures below!
